Freshers Rides & More
Friday, September 16th, 2011Hello everyone,
Thanks for showing such an interest in the Cycling Club over the past two days at the sports fayre!
Freshers Rides
Saturday 17th September, 9am meet at the University Main Gates. We are running two rides, one road and one XC mountain bike ride on Saturday morning. We hope that these will give new-comers a taste of what we do as a club and the chance to meet the committee and some of the current members. The mountain bike ride will either be to Mugdock country park or Pollock park, depending on fitness and ability of who turns up. The trails will NOT be super-technical or difficult but a decent, working mountain bike will be required. As for the road ride, the current intention is to head south of Glasgow at a fairly relaxed pace avoiding any monster hills and busy roads. Again, while this is an easy paced social ride, a well maintained road bike will be needed as well as the usual water bottle, puncture repair kit etc. Lycra is optional, as are shaved legs (for the boys at least..!) We don’t anticipate this ride being any further than a 30 mile loop, max.
Please come along and give us a try, I promise it will cure your hangover, and if you’re not having fun then you can always cut the ride short and head home.
Glentress/Innerleithen Weekend Trip:
As we may have mentioned at the sports fair, we are planning a weekend trip to the Tweed Valley, the countries top mountain biking destination. This is open to everyone and will give the chance to explore some of the best man-made mountain bike trails in the country at Glentress and Innerleithen. Riders of all abilities, and disciplines(downhill and cross country) are welcome and there is even a good bike hire at Glentress for people who want to try the sport out for the first time. Obviously, roadies are also welcome.
We are still ironing out accommodation and transport but it is hoped that this trip will run in mid October, details will be available soon!
SSS Mountain Bike XC Championship
After an extremely successful event last february, SSS Cycling (Scottish Student Sport) will be running a one off cross country mountain bike race, this time at the brilliant venue of Drumlanrig Forest in Dumfries & Galloway. This is a lap race of a small circuit open to all students in Scotland and can be taken as seriously or as casually as you like. The proposed date for this is the first or second Saturday in November but further details will be published in the coming weeks. We will be looking for a big GUCC team for this!
For more details check our forums or our the GUC facebook page.

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010Fort William weekend away – MTB, DH & Road – 22nd/23rd/24th October
We shall be leaving from the main gates at around 7pm on the Friday night and we’llhave you back in Glasgow for around about the same time on Sunday evening. There will be a stop off at Tesco before we leave town so we can grab beer/food. Our accommodation is the ever luxurious Speen Bridge Village Hall – so bring a sleeping bag/mat we’ll be riding on the Saturday and the Sunday (possibly Bill then Laggan, but we’re open to suggestions) before heading home Sunday evening.. There’s some nice roads up that way for the Roadies to explore, but we’ll let you guys sort a route at your leisure.

Fort William
The entire trip should run to the barginalicious price of 15 pounds for your accommodation and transport. This can be paid on the Friday before we leave. Obviously you’ll need to be a member of the club/SRS to come along, so if you’ve not paid up by then get it sorted! (club memberships can get paid on the day) If you’re wanting us to keep you a space then drop Michael an email at captain-cycling@gusa.gla.ac.uk
This is an awesome trip, so ditch your coursework, quit your job and forget about all that other unimportant stuff and get involved!
BUCS Hill Climb 30th Oct – Road
We’re currently trying to gauge interest for this one, if you’re up for it we will be able to organise transport and accommodation and as it’s a BUCS fixture there will be some funding available to help defray any costs. You can find the details of it on the BUCS website

Inners & Fort William
Thursday, October 7th, 2010Why hello!
We’re planning a smallish trip to Inners this Sunday (10th) – XC & DH. Minibus transport isn’t available for this weekend so it’s just going to be a car trip.
If you’re interested in coming – or if you’re interested and you’ve got a car and you’re willing to drive please give your wonderful mtb convener Pete a shout at: ped_dh-at-hotmail[dot]co[dot]uk
We’re needing to know numbers so we can sort out cars, drivers etc. So if you want to come please let Pete know asap.
In addition to this we’ll be heading up to Fort William on the 22nd – 24th of October for our first weekend away. The cost for the entire trip should be around 15 pounds for transport and accommodation..If you’re free and you’re wanting to come please give Michael a shout to reserve a place at captain-cycling@gusa.gla.ac.uk
It’s a Road, Mountain & Beer trip so all are welcome and it’s always a good craic. Plus you’ll have a chance to compete in the Second international Speen Bridge Multi-disipline Indoor Track Event. And yes, that’s as awesome as it sounds.
We’re still ironing out a couple things so expect another shout out confirming all the details – as well as info on the maintenance classes and the skill sessions soon!
If you’ve got any general chat regarding the fort bill trip please feel free to share it on the forums
Annnnnnd one last thing! If anyone has an old steel road frame (54-56cm) that they’d consider donating to the club we’d be terribly appreciative, it doesn’t have to work, as long as the frame and the threading on the bottom bracket is sound we’ll have it. P.s It’s for a secret project.
